I don't really count them as part of my number of books for the year but I love keeping track of them.
This one, The Snow Rabbit, does not have a story, just the most beautiful art story by the author Camille Garoche.
(She also did Fox's Garden which I have not yet seen.) The Snow Rabbit is a story about love between little sisters and magic!
This is the most magical picture book I've seen in a long time, maybe ever. (view spoiler)Another beautiful wordless book by Camille. This story could just as easily have been the non-wheelchair-using sister getting her foot caught in a hole in the ground, and the girls are clearly both in this together, equal partners.I am a little concerned that no parents or guardians seem to have noticed these two girls are out in the snowy woods and it's getting dark. But I guess the outcome would be less magical if Dad or Auntie showed up with a lantern and some gardening shears. Her friend or sister is in a wheel chair, so she brings the rabbit inside to her.The illustrations are pretty, color choice are subtle and classic , with effective focal points and composition. When I read just a few pages, I was thinking is it going to be the same as fox garden ? Fortunately the story starts to flow into a other direction.
